Summit Delays Ender’s Game to November 2013

The big screen adaptation of Ender’s Game was set to come out less than a year from now and is already filming, but Summit has announced today that it is pushing back the release to give the movie some breathing room.

HollyWood Reporter says:

Originally set to open on March 13, 2013 — the eve of the lucrative Easter corridor — Gavin Hood’s Ender’s Game has been pushed back to Nov. 1, 2013.

This of course will land Ender’s Game three weeks before the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire is set to open (Nov 22, 2013).

The 8 month pushback gives them room for error, plenty of time for polishing and of course a lot of publicity.

In the Orson Scott Card novel Andrew “Ender” Wiggin lives in a future world where the world is bracing for another war with an invading insectoid alien race that nearly wiped out human kind twice. Gifted children are educated at Battle School for combat and tactics in simulated games.

The book is the first of 20 books, of which Ender’s Game is the 9th chronologically – 8 were published as prequels.

This gives Summit a franchise with a lot of sequel possibilities
