Did Jenny Agutter Spoil a Cameo in The Avengers?

It seems the unsubstantiated rumour of the day would relate to the Avengers as a supporting cast member let slip a detail that might spoil a potential cameo for the film.

I say this now… SPOILER! If this information is true, it could REALLY spoil something for the film. You are warned not to read further if you would choose not to know about these details.

Jenny Agutter is slated to play an unnamed character in Joss Whedon’s Avengers, and while no one knows who she might be playing outside the vague “Female Council Member”, the Logans Run star did share something she saw on set that could give away a really cool planned cameo.

AICN quotes a radio interview:

As for Agutter, she’s about to metamorphose again to appear alongside Samuel L Jackson and Scarlett Johansson in upcoming Hollywood blockbuster The Avengers.

“I’m sworn to secrecy! I wasn’t allowed a script until I got there, and when I did, I felt like a complete child being on big sets and a huge parking lot full of Winnebagos.”

She does let slip that two of these housed Spider-Man and Iron Man; we suspect Agutter won’t be able to avoid sci-fi conventions for much longer.

Ok, I think I am going to side on the assumption that this was a verbal slip up. Spider-Man is not slated to appear as a member of the Avengers. But it could be a cameo. But then that brings its own obsticles.

Spider-man, aside from being a Sony property as far as films go, is on a completely different payroll than the Avengers. For Spidey to make a cameo, I doubt he would have had his own dedicated trailer in a permenent spot on set. Even if they DID make some sort of deal with Sony to let Spidey swing by in the background or have a brief encounter with the Avengers, his role would be incredibly minor and quite possibly digital – not requiring an actor at all.

With a Spider-man film already in the works however, it is realistic that Sony might have cut a mutually beneficial promotional deal that would allow for a vague suggestion that the two properties co-exist in the same world. The Schumaker Batman films suggested that Superman (and Metropolis) was in their world even though they never crossed paths on screen.

What is sad is that whether or not a Spider-Man cameo will be in the movie will likely be the bigger topic of discussion than this mysterious role that Agutter will be playing.

  1. Well, there was that Venom spinoff once upon a time that was set up at Sony then allegedly went to Disney a few years ago that fizzled out. It also isn’t the first time that this ‘Spider-Man’ rumor has surfaced due in part to the reboot. (Some places even so go as to say Sam Jackson has a cameo in ASM! Hahaha I’m still laughing over stuff like that) But I see it more like… the “X-Men” blooper/joke if there’s something to it.

It’s even possible both productions of Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man may have crossed sets or soundstages but are otherwise unrelated in the films.

Back to Venom. Let’s play a theory, Rodney. Back in…what was it? 2007 there was The Avengers facing off against the Symbiote alien invasion?

    I know it’s a stretch.

And then, there’s a possibility that Agutter mis-poke. Jessica Drew…maybe?

As to what role Jenny’s playing? Hmmm…a “high council”…HYDRA high council?

  2. I wander what these marvel movies would be like if marvel had made a studio first and not sold the rights to the other studios

  3. Because she totally looks like she’s tracking on who Spider-Man is and who Captain America is.

Obviously, being an older lady, doesn’t really care or know what the problem would be if Batman was the cameo in this movie. She probably just saw Ironman and said Spiderman because her grandson loves Spider-Man or something.

It’s crazy how many people are taking this lady’s words seriously, big shit would have to go down before we see a Spidey cameo in the avengers, we’d see it coming from a mile away.

The rights would have to go back to Marvel, and once that happens we would never stop hearing shit like “Johnny Storm’s in the avengers!” or “Ghost Rider will be a cameo!” so its virtually impossible for news like this to sneak up on us and hear it from her.
